About the Project

Gorhambury House is a grade 2 star listed country house built in the 18th century in the county of Hertfordshire. Adams Environmental were commissioned by Fanshawe LLP to carry out an asbestos survey of Gorhambury House. The asbestos survey identified the presence of asbestos throughout the property as panels behind radiators, in floor coverings, in flash guards, within floor ducts and as thermal insulation debris. The Decontaminate team worked progressively through Gorhambury House to remove the asbestos. Where asbestos was present beneath floors then it was necessary for our carpenters to label, record and photograph the boards before carefully lifting them under fully controlled conditions. With many of the boards fixed using secret nails this was laborious process that had to be exercised with care. Once the area had been fully decontaminated our carpenters then reinstated the floors. It was also necessary to decontaminate the fragile lathe and plaster ceilings. Asbestos contaminated pipe work was removed using the wrap and cut method having first been isolated and drained down by Decontaminate.
