Project details
Gorhambury House is a Grade II* listed country house built in the 18th century in the county of Hertfordshire. An asbestos survey identified the presence of asbestos throughout the property as panels behind radiators, in floor coverings, in flash guards, and thermal insulation within the floor voids.
The Decontaminate team worked progressively through Gorhambury House to remove the asbestos. Where asbestos was present beneath floors, our carpenters labelled, recorded, and photographed the boards before carefully lifting them under fully controlled conditions. With many of the boards fixed using secret nails, this was a very intricate process which had to be completed with the utmost care and consideration.
Once the area had been fully decontaminated, our carpenters reinstated the floors. It was also necessary to decontaminate the fragile lathe and plaster ceilings. Asbestos-contaminated pipework was removed using the wrap-and-cut method having first been isolated and drained down by our team.
